Cellfina Cellulite Treatment

Cellulite is caused by the herniation (bulging) of fat through fibrous connective tissue (fibrous septae) under the skin. These fibrous septae anchor the skin to the underlying tissue (this causes the dimples), while the fat pushes through. This can lead to a dimpled, wrinkled appearance to the skin that many women are familiar with. The cause of cellulite is not yet completely understood, but a wide variety of factors including hormones, genetics, and metabolism may play a role in its formation.

Cellulite is much more common in women than men, and it is estimated that up to 90% of post-pubertal women will experience cellulite at some point in their lives.

The Cellfina™ system treats the primary structural cause of cellulite, the connective bands woven throughout fat in the thighs and buttocks. These tight bands pull down the skin, creating the puckering you see on the surface. Similar to a rubber band under tension, once released, the treated skin bounces back to smooth itself out.

Cellfina™ does not involve general anesthesia or prolonged downtime. It relies on a minimally invasive device to disrupt the cellulite-causing bands just beneath the surface of the skin.

Most patients see reduced cellulite in as little as 3 days.

In a pivotal study, patient satisfaction was 85 percent at three months, 94 percent at one year and 96 percent at two years, surpassing the patient satisfaction rates of other leading cellulite treatments.*

While most patients can return to their regular activities within 24 hours, there may be some soreness and bruising. These side effects resolve quickly. The most common side effects reported by patients in the FDA-cleared pivotal study were soreness, tenderness and bruising.

Just three days after treatment, patients rated their pain as minimal (2.7 on a scale of 0 to 10; 0=no pain, 10=extreme pain) and most (82 percent) felt pain only with touch or pressure to the area treated. This minimal pain improved quickly. More than 90 percent of patients had no bruising at four weeks.
