Fine Lines &

Wrinkles

Wrinkles can tell a story. Over the years, every smile and frown adds up and becomes permanently etched in the skin as marionette lines, “11s” between the eyebrows, and crow’s feet.

Aging and thinning skin also form tiny creases and fine lines. While age and its corresponding effects on our appearance are nothing to be ashamed of, sometimes it occurs more quickly or noticeably than we would like.

Fine lines and wrinkles are often one of the first signs of aging. Long before our skin droops or we lose facial volume, many of us notice unwanted wrinkles. Fortunately, there are countless treatments to minimize these lines for the young and old alike.

Wrinkles

Though there are numerous effective treatments for wrinkles, it’s most effective to prevent them in the first place. You may not be able to stop them altogether, but there are ways you can delay and minimize their appearance.

The root cause of wrinkles is insufficient collagen. This essential fiber gives your skin structure and elasticity, keeping it smooth and firm. As collagen decreases with age, we see wrinkles, skin laxity, and volume loss. The best way to prevent and minimize wrinkles is to promote collagen. Since sun damage and smoking break down collagen fibers, avoiding these is the first step to keeping your skin healthy. Proper skincare can also help.

Dynamic wrinkles are those caused by facial expressions. These include frown lines, crow’s feet, forehead lines, and nasolabial folds. When our skin is elastic and healthy, it only temporarily creases when we smile or frown and then smooths out. But over time and with decreased skin elasticity, permanent lines form from these repetitive movements. One way to minimize dynamic wrinkles is to use Botox® as a preventative treatment at a young age. By starting Botox® in your 20s or 30s, you can reduce the severity of wrinkles later on.

Once fine lines and wrinkles inevitably appear, there are several ways to reduce them. Certain skincare products, such as those containing retinol, peptides, or hyaluronic acid, can be beneficial. Keeping your skin hydrated is essential for preventing and minimizing fine lines and wrinkles.

The same healthy practices that help prevent wrinkles from forming can also minimize them once they appear. Your environment and lifestyle can contribute to aging skin. Quitting smoking, wearing sunscreen, and following a healthy diet can improve lines and wrinkles.

Wrinkle creams, sunscreen, and a healthy lifestyle can only do so much to reduce fine lines. Rapaport Plastic Surgery offers several effective skin rejuvenation treatments for more dramatic, lasting improvements. While patients may need a facelift for severe signs of aging, non-surgical cosmetic treatments can often improve mild to moderate wrinkles. Here are some of our most popular options to get rid of wrinkles.

Injectables

Cosmetic injectables are one of the most convenient solutions for rejuvenation. Botox® is one of the most popular anti-aging treatments available. It uses a neurotoxin to temporarily stop facial muscle movement, causing dynamic wrinkles to fade. Alternatively, dermal fillers can restore lost facial volume and help smooth out folds and creases. Many of the fillers we offer, such as Juvederm® and Restylane®, are made with hyaluronic acid and help hydrate the skin.

One of the best things about injectables is their simplicity and ease. The treatment often takes 30 minutes or less and requires no downtime. Most dermal fillers yield immediate results, while Botox® takes effect within a week or two.

Microneedling

Microneedling is sometimes called collagen induction therapy for its collagen-boosting benefits. Tiny needles are used to cause micro-damage to the skin, triggering a healing response that increases collagen production and replaces old, damaged cells. We offer multiple microneedling modalities, including RF microneedling with Morpheus8 and microinjection treatments with AquaGold® fine touch™

Chemical Peel

A chemical peel resurfaces your skin, clearing away the damaged top layers so they can be replaced with healthy, new skin cells. This leaves you with a brighter, clearer complexion. Medium and deep peels can also stimulate increased collagen production, improving skin structure and elasticity to reduce wrinkles.

Laser Skin Resurfacing

Like chemical peels and microneedling, laser treatments trigger your body’s natural healing response to activate collagen remodeling and remove damaged surface skin. Devices like Laser Genesis and Clear+Brilliant® are ideal treatments for wrinkles, sun damage, hyperpigmentation, acne scars, and more.
