Rhinoplasty (Nasal Surgery / Nose Surgery)
Dr. David P. Rapaport is a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon who regularly performs rhinoplasty procedures at his Manhattan, New York surgical facility.
Rhinoplasty is cosmetic surgery of the nose. It is also known as nasal refinement or a "nose job". With rhinoplasty surgery, imperfections from either birth or trauma can be corrected by breaking the bones of the nose and re-setting them narrower and straighter. Outfracture is when the bones are broken and moved out to widen the nose.
A hump may be removed from the nose to give a more pleasing balanced appearance. The cartilage of the nose can be molded and trimmed to create a more compact or pleasing shape. Rhinoplasty can soften an otherwise beautiful face by refining one's features. Dr. Rapaport concentrates on obtaining natural results.

How old do you have to be to have rhinoplasty? The quick answer is that a patient can have a rhinoplasty after their nose has fully matured; around age 16 for women and age 18 for men.
Are the results permanent? Rhinoplasty is usually a permanent cosmetic procedure other than the changes that come with the natural aging process.
How long does the surgery take? Rhinoplasty surgery will last from one to two hours depending on the type and degree of shaping required. If the rhinoplasty is also intended to improve your breathing, additional time is required. The Board Certified Plastic Surgeon will be able to estimate the length of your surgery.
Will I be put under general anesthesia? Depending on the preference of the surgeon and/or the patient, rhinoplasty can be performed under general or local anesthesia.
What are the benefits of rhinoplasty? Benefits of rhinoplasty can range from improved breathing to enhanced appearance and self-confidence.
Will I have scars from a rhinoplasty? Incisions are most often made inside the nose during a rhinoplasty procedure, which allows for no scarring. In certain instances, when a patient wishes to narrow their nostrils, the rhinoplasty plastic surgeon will make incisions at the base of the nose. A surgeon that is skilled at performing rhinoplasty procedures will be able to make incisions that are more easily concealed and will fade over time to become barely noticeable.
