Chin Implants
/ Chin Augmentation Plastic Surgery
Board Certified Plastic Surgeon, David. P. Rapaport performs
chin augmentation (mentoplasty) as an out-patient procedure
at his Manhattan, New York fully accredited surgical
facility. The chin implant plastic surgery procedure is a
fast and safe as well as commonly performed procedure by the
Plastic Surgeon.
The chin appears the most balanced when it projects as far as
the lower lip. The goal of the chin implant plastic surgery
procedure is to balance the profile (male of female) by
enhancing a weak chin and improving overall facial
aesthetics.
Chin implants come in various shapes and sizes, and are made
out of both solid and semi-solid materials. The Board
Certified Plastic Surgeon will discuss your options with you
during your consultation at his Manhattan, New York office.
The chin implants tend to have a dramatic effect although
they are intended to be a natural extension of the body. It
is a known fact that after chin implant plastic surgery,
people are told how great they look, but when questioned as
to what it was, most could not tell it was a chin implant.
For males, does a chin implant affect shaving?
No.. For about five days there are sutures present. Men may shave around the incision until
the sutures are removed 5-7 days after chin implant (chin
augmentation) surgery.. Then they may shave the entire face
and chin area with a straight edge blade for one week. It is
best to resume shaving with an electric razor at about ten days
postoperatively.
How long does the surgery take?
45 minutes to 1 & 1/2 hours.
Anesthesia: General or
local anesthesia with I.V. sedation.
Where would my chin implant (chin augmentation)
surgery take place.: Chin
implant surgery is outpatient surgery and would be performed
at the Board Certified Plastic Surgeon's Manhattan, New York
office facility.
Why is a chin implant sometimes recommended with
rhinoplasty?
It's all about balance. Facial features in good proportion
are perceived as beautiful. Adding a chin implant readjusts
overall facial proportions. In some cases, it is possible to
reduce the appearance of the size of the nose just by adding
the chin implant for balance.
What should I expect during recovery?
Patients have temporary discomfort with swelling, bruising,
stiffness, and numbness.
When can I return to work?
Restrictions from work are generally 3-5 days for chin
implant surgery depending on a person's occupation. Two to
three weeks off work is recommended for multiple procedures.
It is important to avoid bending, lifting and straining
during the postoperative period.
